What can I say, I’m a hardcore thrifter. I love, love, love finding a steal and when I can incorporate my findings into my decor or wardrobe, well, that’s a win win for me! We live in a four bedroom house with two bedrooms to spare and I’m so fortunate enough to have one room as my closet/office and the other as a guest room. This guest room has sucked for a while now, looking sad and pitiful, it easily fell to last on my list to decorate! But I recently visited our local Goodwill to look for some home furnishings and that easily turned into visiting three other Goodwill’s and one Salvation Army lol the thrift store haul that day was good …

Since moving to SoCal my taste has evolved into a beachy / mid-century modern / bohemian vibe which I like to simply call California Style. Lot’s of greenery, rugs, baskets and macramé. Random collections of seashells and a surfboard propped in the corner gives a beach vibe without the cliché store-bought decor, which I totally love. Long gone are the days when I would aspire to have a living area that looks like it came out of a furniture show room. Now I favor a more thrown together look where items fit nicely but look as though it took years to actually come together another perk to thrift store shopping!

I thought I should post before and afters of the room because, well, who doesn’t love a good before and after?! I did this in one afternoon with no actual plan other than knowing I wanted to hang my fabulous painting of Billie Holiday in the corner of the room and also wanted to fill the walls as best as I could! Seventy-five percent of this room is Goodwill, the rug, corduroy bedding, and most of the wall hangings were bought just the day before! I started with Billie and then the Adventure Awaits signage and worked my way across the wall, slowly everything started falling into place!

Decorating can be difficult, overwhelming, and intimidating when you over think it, so don’t! I encourage everyone, no matter where you live, no matter your style, to visit your local thrift stores! Keep an open mind when looking for furniture, lamps, pictures frames, that just need a little sprucing up with a can of spray paint!

I’d love to be able to tag all my findings for you but obviously that’s not possible, so this post is more for inspiration. But I can tell you that all of the items (not including my Billie Holiday painting) you see in this room was purchased at Goodwill, Salvation Army, Ikea, TJ Maxx, and Target. Happy hunting, guys!!
